Was the Siege Of Budapest meaningful? Keep in mind that the Soviets had already advanced to the Werhmacht's defensive line at the Oder River, so there wouldn't be any sort of breakthrough there. It was more like Vienna in my opinion, a land grab so that the treaty after the war would be more generous to them. Give me your opinions on this...

Maybe they wanted to advance into North Italy and Austria. They already had other ways of getting into Austria, while Italy even to them was not worth the fighting.
